Communicative Planning

This is a custom chart (3×7 feet) that I prepared for a presentation I was giving at a planning theory class at the University of British Columbia. The chart was an accumulation of my learning and summarized a large body of literature on “communicative planning” – more than a dozen books and articles – that I had read. In creating the chart I came to know the material more deeply and in a much more cohesive way. My audience replied that the chart also help them better conceptualize what is otherwise the hard-to-grasp language of theory. 

Later, when I ended up teaching the same planning theory class in 2014 I borrowed some elements from the chart above when I created this visual handout to help summarize the key concepts of the course for the students.
